A comprehensive case study has been conducted as part of my master's thesis, focusing on the merger of Kenya Airways and South African Airlines to form a Pan-African Airline Group. This study proposes a holistic corporate identity design for the merged entity, along with guidelines for managing airline corporate identity and best practices in corporate identity design.

The topic of the thesis explores the historical development of corporate identity design in the airline industry and the key factors influencing its creation. The research methodology includes a literature review, case studies, surveys, interviews, social media analysis, and corporate identity design analysis. The study aims to provide insights into the historical evolution of corporate identity design for airlines, the parameters that have shaped it, and the challenges and opportunities in the digital age.

A new corporate identity has been designed for the Pan-African Airline Group, reflecting the rich African history and heritage. The logo design philosophy combines two Adinkra symbols, symbolizing unity and strength. This visual identity is applied across various platforms, including advertising materials (both printed and digital), ticket design, airplane livery design, and stationery for both internal and external communications. The comprehensive corporate identity system ensures consistency and recognition across all touchpoints.

The case study is presented with accompanying images that showcase the logo's applications in different contexts. These visual elements highlight the integration of African cultural symbols into a modern and cohesive brand identity. The study offers valuable insights for airlines seeking to enhance their corporate identity design strategies and contributes to the understanding of the historical context that has influenced the evolution of corporate identity design in the airline industry. The findings of this research have the potential to benefit the airline industry by identifying key elements of a strong corporate identity and strategies for effective corporate identity management.
